Lane and William Asher Lane. He was the only child of Grace and Bill.
Dick graduated from Georgia Tech in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical
Engineering. He played the trumpet in the Georgia Tech Band and was a member of the
Air Force ROTC. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force and
graduated flight school and trained as a jet fighter pilot from 1954-1957. After the Air
Force, Dick was an engineer at Lockheed, at Univac selling computers and found great
success selling insurance. He began with National Life of Vermont, then Confederate Life
and eventually moved to State Farm Insurance. Dick earned many accolades at State
Farm - President’s Club, Legion of Honor, Millionaire Club, Life Member of the Million
Dollar Round Table. He served 39 years in the Insurance business and earned the trust of
many, many clients. Clients that were more like friends and family to Dick.
Dick was a loving and devoted husband to Frances Pauline Johnson. They were married
for 61 years. Dick and Frances settled in Sandy Spring after stops in Valdosta, Huntsville
and East Point. In 1976 they moved to Cumming. They raised 4 daughters, Frances Ann
Bowen, Michelle Johnson Lane, Karen Grace Stubbs, Riki Renee Craze. Dick was an
unapologetic protector of Frances and his girls. He loved them with a big heart and a big
personality. No one in the Lane family doubted the love and devotion of Dick Lane. He
was truly devoted to his daughters, but his absolute number one was his wife Frances.
Throughout 61 years of marriage, Frances was always by his side.
Dick was a Christian, a man of faith, a believer in Jesus Christ. His faith was a guiding
principle in his life. He served, gave and attended Colonial Hills Baptist Church, First
Baptist Church of Atlanta, Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Sandy Springs and finally at
Midway Community Church. Dick was a deacon, teacher and leader in his church. In the
end, he was ready to go to heaven. He was secure in the knowledge of the saving grace
of Jesus and it provided him and his family peace and strength as Dick approached the
end of his life.
Dick was an avid golfer, he loved a good putter, and accumulated quite a collection of
putters over the years.. He loved a good movie, heck he loved any movie.. He loved
Georgia Tech, especially the glory days of Bobby Dodd. He enjoyed a new car, a good
meal with a good dessert. He loved traveling with his family, the sound of an approaching
thunder storm, the relaxing sound of rain on a tin roof. He liked looking at the ocean,
dreaming of flying airplanes, driving a tractor.
Dick is survived by and leaves the following legacy after 85 years,married to Frances for 61 years
having Four beautiful and loving daughters, Frances Ann Bowen, Michelle Johnson Lane, Karen Grace Stubbs, Riki Renee Crase. Three sons in law, James Perry Bowen, William Gregory Stubbs, George Edward Craze. Ten grandchildren, Benjamin Asher Bowen, Joshua Raymond Bowen, Courtney Croft Sura, Kaitlyn Renee Croft, Kelsey Lane Cordell, Emily Anne Korosec, Gregory Taylor Stubbs, Abigail Frances Stubbs, Caroline Hope Craze, Katie Frances Craze. Three grand son-in-laws, Kevin Curtis Cordell, Joseph Michael Sura, Brian Timothy Korosec. Four great grandchildren, Evelyn Grace Cordell, Chapman Curtis Cordell, Talon Gregory Cordell, Harper Anne Korosec.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2019 from 11:30 am till 1:00 pm at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd. Roswell, Ga. 30076. Funeral service will be held on December 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm, at the Roswell Funeral Home Chapel, 950 Mansell Rd. Roswell, Ga. 30076.
