She lived in many places in her childhood, though most of them in California: Dinuba, Fresno, Sacramento, and others. Of these, she remembers most fondly living in Dinuba. Her happy times were playing with her older brother, John and older sister, Julie – catching pollywogs in the ditch, playing catch, roller skating, picking berries by the railroad tracks, and planting cotton seed by hand where the machines had missed. For a time, she lived with her Grandmother and always had a special relationship with her thereafter. She also remembers that in her childhood (and really forever after) that her father loved to fish, and so the family spent many a weekend in the mountains, on the backroads, and even near the coast.
Nancy graduated high school in Fresno in 1971. She was awarded the honor of the top math student – a skill she enjoyed seeing in her children and grandchildren as well. She would often say – “math is just so logical!” She would have loved to have gone to college, and had an interest in some prestigious universities, but life didn’t go that way.
She started college locally and also chose to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This filled a very important need in her life to understand God and the purpose of life. This decision helped drive many of the major events in the rest of her life, including how she chose to raise her children.
Nancy was married to Tony Anguiano and had 5 children – four boys and girl. She was later married to Kevin Segard and quickly and happily took on his 3 sons as well. That really made her a great mother for all her boys, cherish her daughter, and really appreciate her daughter-in-laws and one son-in-law!
She worked for 37 years for the same company, but that company had a habit of changing hands and changing names every few years. While she worked, she continued taking classes. Though she never finished her 4-year degree, she did work her way up from being entry level positions to eventually retire on par with engineering staff.
Nancy moved out to Virginia as her family spread across several states. She would relish the opportunity to see them and their families, though the occasions were never often enough. She took pleasure traveling back to Washington, Texas, California, Georgia, and back to Virginia (once she had moved to Georgia herself). Though she would say that she traveled to see her kids, her kids knew she seemed most interested in the time with her grandchildren.
She loved to be in service of others throughout her life. She found hours in what was already a very busy life to serve children in the Primary, other woman in Relief Society, and her own family, most especially years of supporting Mark, allowing him to live much more independently. She had a particular diligence for digitizing family records and pictures. In many cases, digitizing a broad set of items that were passed to her from generations before and now preserved for all generations to come. Likewise, she enjoyed the opportunity to serve in the temple, knowing that her family was worth binding together for eternity and enjoying helping others with their families as well.
Nancy – Wife, Sister, Mom, Grandma – always wanted others to recognize that whatever shortcomings she had, that she was grateful for good parents that did well raising her, grateful for her children and their children, grateful for her husband Kevin and his family (which she described as a bonus), and grateful to have the perspective and understanding from living a life filled with faith. She wanted all that survived her to recognize that despite her own weaknesses and failures that she loved them and hoped they would be inspired to be even better.
Nancy passed from this life on April 7, 2025, at the age of 71 surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Norma Jean Stark, and her brother, John Stark. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Segard; sister, Julie Kort; children: Paul and his wife, Veronica, John and his wife, Karina, David and his wife, Carrie, Jenny and her husband, Mark, and Mark; her additional sons by marriage: Kyle, Shaun and his wife, Emily, and Nick and his wife, Kastina; and 21 grandchildren.
