I am very sad to find out about Mike's passing.  The other day my wife Linda and I were driving to Oklahoma City.  During the short trip I started telling her about my friendship with Mike that began in 1979.   Mike and I began our friendship at Goodyear in Lawton, Oklahoma as section managers in final finish and shipping,  As we were both on rotating shifts I met Lucy and the twins.  Several times the Gerlachs kept the twins in Lawton and Cordell, Oklahoma.  Mike was an inspiration to me.  He taught me a lot about management and performance.  We both left Goodyear in 1981 with Mike joining the Secret Service and I returned to banking.  We spoke several times and I met him in DC during banking conventions.  When his work took him to Roswell, Georgia we spoke on occasion.  I treasure the friendship that I had with Mike and Lucy and am so sad to hear of his passing.  He was a great friend, a great man, a wonderful family man and I will miss him greatly.  With honor and respect,  KKG

"When all is said and done, if you can count all your true friends on one hand, you're a lucky man." Mike was one of those friends to me. I had the privilege of knowing Mike for 49 years.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. "Mikey" was a true loyal friend.

Robin and I send our heartfelt deepest sympathy to Lucy and the Davis Family.

Late 1993, I had the fortune of starting my career with the Secret Service in the Atlanta Field Office.  I saw quickly that this was an office filled with senior agents and I was grateful to have so many excellent examples of how to do this career right.  I had numerous people to turn to on how to do the job well.  Mike quickly became a regular stop for advice and became integral in my development.

I learned so much from Mike.  He was a first rate husband, father, and leader who helped me understand true leadership.  He was an encourager but also a straight shooter.  He had a gift for teaching and leading through stories and humor.  He also showed me the value of working hard, leading from the front, and once the mission was successfully completed, taking time to celebrate the victory.  He wrote numerous hand written thank you notes to young agents of encouragement to praise their victories.  He generated unofficial “awards” which were filled with that Mike Davis turn of phrase that you had to read closely to not miss.  Two of these hang in my home office, which somehow came to be more valuable than any official awards.

Beyond work, he was passionate about sharing life together with his fellow agents.  Mike continued to follow our careers as we moved on from Atlanta and he celebrated our successes and always had an ear and encouragement when the career was challenging.  

Finally, Mike showed me how to love family.  He loved Lucy and his kids and made sure you knew it.  Thank you Lucy for supporting his USSS career.  I am a better man for having Mike in my life and I will miss him dearly.

Mike was a gentlemen and a true professional.
I'll always remember his kindness and friendship.

Mike was a good son, a good brother, a good husband, a good father, a good grandfather, a good Agent, and my good friend. Mike was simply a very good man.

Not very long ago while visiting Mike in his lunch area I was talking to him about God and thought that maybe I should change the conversation. I said to him that I was probably boring him by talking to much about God, Mike looked directly at me and in a very loud and commanding voice yelled "NO!". Everyone turned to see what was happening, I looked back to calm every ones concerns and when my eyes returned to Mike's, he calmly looked at me and simply said "No, not at all". I can only imagine the conversation Mike is now having with our Lord. I just wonder who will get the last word in, not really, we all know Mike. Mike loves God and God loves Mike, a very good man indeed.

I first met Mike as a young agent when he was my shift leader on a foreign dignitary detail and like everybody else, once you met Mike, you made a friend for life. Over the years we ran into each other several times and always shared a laugh and in 2008 he became my boss at TSA’s Office Of Inspection! Mike loved his family, loved the Secret Service and loved his friends. He is missed already and will be missed going forward.

I met Mike post 9/11 when we volunteered together at a local facility. We continued most Wednesday nights for 15 years.

Mike read people and situations better than anyone I know.  In aviation terms, he had over the horizon radar.  He knew what things were coming before they were actually in view.  His life experiences, growing up in Philly, VMI education, military and Secret Service work, prepared him well to be a consummate caregiver.  He had walked in many shoes.  Whether protecting Presidents or helping the most ordinary of us, his wisdom, intellect and caring were Mike’s unique gifts to all of us.  I always thought the smart ones heeded his advice and the rest proceeded at their own peril! He knew everyone was entitled to their own dumb opinions.

He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and all round good guy, loyal to his friends - warts and all.  His favorite past time was to spend time with Lucy reading under a cabana on the beach.  He was proud of Mike Jr’s financial prowess and success, as well as, helping Mike and Lucy be Grandparents.  He loved and was supportive of Katie.  As witnessed by the many memories and testimonies shared here, Mike made many lifelong friends and was there for them.

Wednesday nights haven’t been the same, but I remember our time together and cherish Mike for the friend and role model he was.  A life well lived! Many wonderful memories, stories,and shared points of views will stay with me and be passed along.  All this being said by many has “the extra benefit of being the truth” as Mike would so eloquently put it.

From all of us out here in Oklahoma in the early years of your US Secret Service career, God's speed "Mickie". Always the professional, a true gentleman and friend. Say hi to Mickey, Don, Alan, Cindy,  Linda and Kathy for me. I will see you all some day soon.

I had the opportunity to work with Mike on numerous occasions during our Secret Service careers.  Coming from military backgrounds we discussed our experiences, as well as our Secret Service careers.
Mike was the consummate professional who always went the extra mile to guide younger agents,  guiding them with his  positive attitude and unparalleled work ethic.  
We know the Davis family, as well as Secret Service alumni, take pride in the fact that Mike was a great person, and patriot!

Mike was truly one of a kind, and will be sorely missed. He and my late husband, Bob Camp, were good friends and worked so many cases together, and with Joe Marshburn  in the mix, they were the Three Musketeers.
I cannot overstate Mike's character. He was straightforward, uncompromising and consistent. He faced everything head on, coolly and with fortitude. He was an example to me, and I am sure many others, of what courage looks like, and what it means.  He was a regular visitor with Bob, and his strength and support meant so much to us both. For all of his steel, he was a loving father and devoted to his beautiful wife, Lucy.
A very great man, and one that is a model to all.  A terrible loss. 
I was blessed to know him. 

Mike was a wonderful friend to my family and especially my father, Joe Marshburn. Through my father's illness he was a constant companion for him. They worked so many cases together and had so many stories! I am forever thankful for the group of agents that were their during that time and Mike was always one of ones that would stop by or call. I am so glad that they can share stories again and are together.  I know that the reunion of my Dad, Bob Camp, and Mike was a joyous one! 

Love to the family and I will be praying for you in the coming days. He will be missed by all!

Prayers for all the family.  We were BR’s at VMI and have some fantastic memories. 

Mike and I worked closely during my time in the Atlanta Office of the Secret Service. Mike "broke" me in as a first level supervisor in the counterfeit squad.  Long hours and late night surveillance we spent a lot of time together discussing all of life's interesting issues. I worked closely with him during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. What wonderful experiences we both had with that challenging assignment.  Mike was a smart and witty man with a leadership quality of a General and an approachable spirit.  He once told me "I taught you everything you know but not everything I know" . When I think of Mike Davis I always get a smile on my face and a good thought for him. To Mike's family,  Godspeed and may God's peace that transcends all understanding guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.   

Mike was a gentleman and great colleague in the Secret Service.  He  was always quick witted,  knowledgeable, and a stand-up agent.  My condolences to the entire family.   God Bless and rest in peace.

I couldn't overstate Mike's importance to me as a boss, mentor and friend.  When I started as an intern at the Secret Service's Atlanta field office he quickly put me to work as he finished up his work from leading the Service's operations with the 1992 Olympics.  He let me be directly involved in the protective and investigative work whenever possible and was a true teacher and mentor.

I remember him seeing me reading a Service manual on investigations and asking why I was reading that.  "That's not how you learn about investigating."  He directed me to grab several of his old case files and talked me through his process of cracking the cases.  It was fascinating!

A couple of years later, during my Army career, I was in a near fatal car accident in Georgia just a week before a middle east deployment.  My parents received the worst type of midnight call from the Georgia State Patrol as they were cutting me out of my car.  While quickly driving down to Atlanta my parents thankfully remembered me mentioning Mike to them in the past.  After contacting the Service's main number, Mike was notified of my situation in the middle of the night and didn't hesitate to jump into action.  He called the Colonel in charge of the GSP and found the hospital to which I was being life-flighted and drove straight there demanding that they notify the top emergency surgeon to work on me.  He was there to calm my parents when they arrived at Grady hospital.

He, Jim Cool and several other friends from the Service were kind to visit me during my recovery.  Mike didn't let me lose my spirit after my dreams of a Service career were dashed.  "You have to play with the hand of cards that you're dealt" he told me and provided great inspiration as I started my small business.

Mike remained a great friend on my all too infrequent trips back to Atlanta.  I miss him dearly, but will always be grateful for my time with him.  I extend my deepest sympathies to Lucy, Michael Jr & Katy.

Mike was one of a kind and a true friend.   I never knew anyone who worked harder to do something for others whether it was a trinket, a gift (I have a special one from him) or a letter of praise.  He was tireless in those efforts.

We often had long conversations about our careers, our military experiences, our families and especially our faith.   I will see you again brother and we will pick up where we left off.

Mike Davis was  my boss, mentor, and most importantly my friend.  Mike was a man full of character and integrity.  Once Mike called you a friend, he was there with you in the good times and especially the difficult. Mike Davis left an indelible mark on me and many of my colleagues. He greatly loved  Lucy, Mike Jr and his daughter and spoke of them often. The world was a better place with Mike Davis. You will be greatly missed Mike!!! Rest In Peace my friend. May God Bless the Davis family for Mike’s kindness and generosity to me and my family.

Lucy and family___there are not enough words to describe the loss of the finest man I've ever known.  

We met at VMI some 45 years ago. After graduation, we all departed to start our careers. Mike did as well but with one major difference, he also left with you Lucy....the new found love of his life!

I kept in touch with Mike over the years especially during his illustrious career with the US Secret Service. I remember laughing one day while talking to him at the White House when he had to cut me off and abruptly hang up as he shouted "the VP's motorcade is leaving".

Then there were many late night conversations about life, family, politics and his computer. He very much adored you and loved his family above all else.  He would do anything for anyone.

I can say he was a true southern gentleman but it did take quite a while to get there.  When he and brother Dave matriculated to VMI, they immediately let you know they were from "South Philly" and I was just a Virginia boy.  After rooming with them for four years, I almost felt as though I also was from South Philly and attended Bartram High School, hung with them on the corner of 32nd and Tasker St and swam in the dirty Schuylkill River. 

Mike never developed a good ole Southern drawl but did learn to sometimes say "you all" instead of "yous guys".  After our first rat breakfast at VMI when he was first introduced to grits, he soon learned to eat them with butter, salt & pepper and not milk and sugar as he thought it was cream of wheat.  

I'm so glad Jimmy, Loretta and I were able to spend the weekend with you and Mike during our 40th VMI Reunion. I'll treasure those memories for the rest of my life.  

May you find comfort in knowing Mike was a loving and caring man who touched everyone he met and will be truly missed by all.  He was my best friend who I loved dearly.  I will never forget him.
