Reverend Day lost his father at the young age of 8 to tuberculosis after which he helped care for his mother and sister, Mavis, who also died of tuberculosis at the young age of 20. After serving in the US Army at the end of World War II, Reverend Day had a calling to serve in the ministry. Throughout his life, Reverend Day accumulated many degrees including a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University, a Bachelor of Theology from Atlanta Christian College, and a Masters of Biblical Education, Masters of Divinity and a Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary.
Reverend Day served as senior minister of the Aberdeen Christian Church in Aberdeen, Mississippi and the Northwest Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia prior to establishing the North Druid Hills Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia. While serving as minister of North Druid Hills, Reverend Day also served as a Chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Decatur, Georgia, where he became the Chief Chaplain prior to retiring.
While at Atlanta Christian College, Reverend Day met his future wife, Doris Jean DePorter. Reverend Day and Doris had 4 sons, Marlin Henry Day, Jr., David Paul Day, Mark Edward Day and Michael Glenn Day.
Reverend Day is preceded in death by his parents and sister, his wife, Doris, and sons David and Michael.
Reverend Day is survived by his sons Henry and Mark Day.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, Georgia.
