She was born in Dover, Delaware in 1943 to Lura Mae and Edgar Hart Dunn (deceased). As a child, Marcia lived in Newfoundland (Canada) then St. Petersburg, FL. She attended Bixby School of Business (1962) and received an Associate Degree in Nursing from St. Petersburg Junior College (1965); receiving the School of Nursing’s award for outstanding leadership.
With her husband and two children, she lived in Atlanta, GA; Seneca, SC; Merritt Island, FL; Prairie Village, KS, before returning to Georgia in 1986 settling in Alpharetta and most recently Roswell.
Marcia was a licensed nurse in Florida and Georgia, working in several hospitals including Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Later in her career, she moved into the administrative side of the medical field supporting an allergy practice and then into the OB-GYN specialty where she devoted herself to nurturing soon-to-be moms.
Throughout her life, Marcia loved to volunteer in the community with various organizations including: Johnson County Young Matrons, Girl Scouts (as Troup leader), Special Education and Library aide at local elementary schools; most recently at The Atlanta Academy where she served for several years.
She was known for her friendly and giving personality who lovingly cared for her family, friends, and neighbors. She also loved animals and adopted several wonderful dogs from her local animal shelter; giving them a forever home.
Marcia is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Lawrence Hunnicutt (Roswell, GA), daughters Laura Hunnicutt (Marietta, GA) and Lynda Hunnicutt (Woodstock, GA), and her sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Gene Bigbie (Avon Park, FL).
She will be deeply missed by her family, and friends, yet we are comforted in knowing that because of her profession of faith in Jesus Christ, we know she is fully healed and in the presence of the Lord. We look forward to seeing her again. A celebration of life service for family members will be held December 2nd at Sanford Estates Senior Living Community in Roswell, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Marcia Hunnicutt be made to Mercy Ships, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ or The Atlanta Humane Society, https://atlantahumane.org/. The family also wishes to thank the staff and wonderful caregivers at Sandford Estates, Golden Home Services, and Agape Hospice Care.
