Kenneth Wayne Thompson

Kenneth Wayne Thompson entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday, September 20, surrounded by his family at home. Ken was born on February 11, 1951 in Springfield, Pennsylvania to Harry and Peggy Thompson.
Ken graduated from Oxford Area High School (Oxford, PA), received his bachelor’s degree from Stetson University (DeLand, FL), and attended Thomas Jefferson University Medical School (Philadelphia, PA). Ken completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), Ken was a highly regarded medical doctor who worked in addiction recovery for 30 years, after entering into his own recovery in 1987. The impact of Ken’s work is widespread - his exceptional medical care touched a countless many. Ken’s personal recovery, however, was his greatest accomplishment, having celebrated 33 years of sobriety in January of this year. Ken’s recovery enriched his legacy of changing lives, one person at a time.
Ken was a past president of the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine and served as the Medical Director at Florida Recovery Center in Gainesville, Florida; Caron Treatment Center in Wernersville, Pennsylvania; Black Bear Lodge in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia; and finally, as the Director of Professionals Program at Talbott Recovery in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, Ken was the founding board member of Like-Minded Docs, a group of physicians dedicated to improving and maintaining quality care for people with addiction.
Ken enjoyed nature, woodworking, photography, visiting the Great Smoky Mountains with his wife, Patti, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ken often told stories of his animals and his beloved yellow lab “Buddy,” who was his favorite four-legged companion.
Ken is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith Thompson, his daughter, Hayley (Thompson) Creasey-Rogers (Jim), and his children Heidi Moreno (Gabe), Heather Anderson (Jamie), Lauren Lefevre (Mike), and Ethan Colclasure (Ashley). In addition, Ken was a proud papa to 17 grandchildren – Kayden Thompson (13), Elijah Thompson (11), Benjamin Thompson (9), Olivia Creasey (12), Madeline Creasey (11), Evelyn Rogers (2), Charlotte Rogers (9 months), Bryan Moreno (17), Derek Moreno (15), Samantha Anderson (29), Sydney Anderson (24), Spencer Anderson (22), Lily Lefevre (9), Jack Lefevre (9), Townsley Colclasure (7), Hazel Colclasure (6), and Adelaide Colclasure (4).
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Ralph Thompson and Margaret Peggy Day, his sister, Karen Thompson, and his son, Kenneth Wayne Thompson, Jr.
