John Robert Harrison, Sr., 82, died on March 2, 2012 at his home under the care of his devoted wife, Charlyne and their three children. He was a faithful member of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church for 38 years. Born in Bluffton, GA on May 23, 1929 to William Elijah Harrison and Mary Forrest Harrison, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlyne Bray Harrison; son, John Robert Harrison, Jr. (Stephanie Harrison), daughters, Elizabeth Harrison Kolowich and Fran Harrison Corbitt (Dr. George V. Corbitt); nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Ethel Harrison Colyer, Ruth Harrison Lands; brother-in-law, Gordon Bray, Jr. (Nancy Bray); sister-in-law, Betty Johnson Harrison and a host of nieces and nephews. Dr. John graduated from Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia. He practiced family medicine in the Millen, Chamblee and Dunwoody areas until his retirement at age 75. He was active on the medical staffs of DeKalb General, Northside and Shallowford Hospitals and was president of the medical staff of Shallowford Hospital in 1984-1985. John was a charter member of the American Board of Family Practice. He was a devoted physician to his community for 48 years and was considered to be both a mentor and role model among his colleagues. Visitation will be on March 6 from 6pm – 8pm at Roswell Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA on March 7 at 2pm with visitation at 1pm.
