Mr. John R. Harper, Jr., age 86, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Mr. Harper attended Russell High School of East Point, GA and he attended The Georgia Institute of Technology. He retired as Vice-President of Operations from Zep Manufacturing Company headquartered in Atlanta, GA after 37 years of service. Mr. Harper was also a longtime member of Roswell United Methodist Church where he was a founding member of the Prime Time Singers, a member of the Sanctuary Choir, the Seekers Sunday School Class, and an original volunteer with the Job Networking Ministry.
Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean Shurbutt Harper; parents, John Ralph Harper, Sr. and Frances Brooks Harper, and grandson, John Bryan Harper. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Harper Reid of Atlanta, GA; son, William R. Harper, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Mary Harper of Suwanee, GA; grandchildren, Carole Harper Oliver of Suwanee, GA, William R. Harper, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Emily Kathryn McMullan and her husband, John, of Savannah, GA; and great-granddaughters, Ava Elizabeth Oliver and Lila Grace Oliver of Suwanee, GA. Mr. Harper is also survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Harold Johnson of Alpharetta, GA.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 14 at Roswell Funeral Home from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Roswell United Methodist Church on Saturday July 15 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, GA 30075.
