John Robert Allen

John Robert Allen was born in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Clearance Young Allen and Elsie Mae Jones Allen on November 2, 1948. John was the sixth and final child to be born into this family. His five Sisters are the late Nancy Carolyn McKannan, Marion Janet Calhoun, Mary Elizabeth Tillery, Ellen Louise Pike, and June Hollingsworth Hubbard.

John grew up in Alabama and graduated from Huntsville High School. He was a star athlete during his years in school, which ended up leading him to become an avid sports fan later in life. John attended the University of Alabama and pursued a degree in English. Once graduated in 1970, he moved to Roswell, GA where he settled down in a small a-frame house on the Chattahoochee River with a garden. Once in Georgia, he opened a restaurant called Fitzgerald’s in Atlanta. Luckily for him, he met the love of his life, Judy Dodd, in his restaurant. Judy would visit the restaurant for a wonderful meal after her long days at work during her years in college. They fell in love and got married on May 19, 1990.

John and Judy Allen settled down in a home in Roswell, GA only miles from where his old a-frame still stands. They had two daughters together. The late Michelle Kenzie Allen was born in 1997 and Cathryn Young Allen was born in 2000. John adored his life as a father, having been a stay-at-home father for the first few years of Cathryn’s life. Having a loving family was the one thing John Allen wanted most in life.

John loved the Lord with his whole heart. We now celebrate that John Robert Allen has been welcomed home by the Heavenly Father.
