Jennifer Lou Hanger of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away on March 23, 2025 at the age of 63. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sibling, aunt, friend, and Christ-follower who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jennifer was born on July 15, 1961 in Monroe, Michigan, to Gregg and Dorothy Grahn. She grew up south of Detroit and was a cheerleader, athlete, homecoming queen, and valedictorian at Woodhaven High School. While working full time, she attended Wayne State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. From there, she was hired by the East Ohio Gas Company in Cleveland and placed in their management fast-track program. She thrived and also found time to earn an MBA from Case-Western Reserve University. Jennifer then joined Deloitte Consulting’s utility practice and, later, was hired by Equitable Resources in Pittsburgh as VP of Natural Gas Operations. Managing 600+ personnel at Equitable, she was one of the first women in the country to hold a senior executive role in the utilities industry.
Jennifer met John while living in Cleveland, and they got married in 1995 against a backdrop of the mountains in Montana. They would go on to have close to 30 years of marriage. The newlyweds moved to Atlanta, where Jennifer transitioned into a new role as President of an Equitable Resources subsidiary. After John & Jennifer welcomed their first daughter (Larisa) in 1997, Jennifer chose to focus her full attention on being a dedicated wife and mother. She gave birth to triplets (Zachary, Katia, and Ana) in 2000 which tested her motherhood skills, but she passed with flying colors all while enabling her husband to succeed as a serial entrepreneur in the software industry. She was always very invested in her children’s lives, going above and beyond to create a home marked by love. In addition to her faith and family, she loved flowers, books, a clean home, her family’s dogs, and keepsakes from her children.
Jennifer grew up knowing much about Jesus, but it wasn’t until 2004 that she came to know Him personally and found assurance that Heaven would be her eternal home. He changed her life and, through her, changed many more lives. She was well-known in the community for being a prayer warrior and the type of virtuous woman described in the Bible, exemplifying dignity, patience, diligence, generosity, courage, wisdom, and devotion. As an empty nester the past 7 years, Jennifer turned her newfound time and attention to leading an in-depth ladies Bible study. She was passionate about helping other women develop the same love for God’s Word that she herself had developed.
Even amidst the struggles a breast cancer diagnosis brought, she persisted. Her heart was always set on God, and she saw the diagnosis as something to walk through rather than as her identity. With the close support of John and many others, she continued to invest in her family, her faith, and her community.
She is survived by her:
• Husband: John Hanger
• Children: Larisa Hanger, Zachary Hanger, Katia Hein, and Ana Marie Hanger
• Siblings: Gregg Grahn, Dunne’ Grahn, Claudia DiResta, and Derrick Grahn
