James Mickey Johnson, 76, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital in Roswell following a period of declining health.
Mickey was born April 26, 1941 in Valdese, North Carolina, and was the son of the late James Alford (Red) Johnson and Artia Poteat Johnson and was a brother to the late Louise Johnson Barrett. He was a 1959 graduate of Valdese High School. Following his graduation, Mickey served four years with the United States Air Force before beginning a 25 year career with International Business Machines. During his IBM career he lived in Hickory, NC, Washington, DC, Charlotte, NC, Oklahoma City, OK, and Atlanta, GA. Mickey married Patricia Walker Johnson in 1965.
Mickey was passionate about the NAMI organization and served in many committee capacities including Legislative Representative as well as working with the Crisis Intervention Team for the Northside chapter.
Mickey loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was affectionately known as Papa J to his grandchildren. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jerilyn Johnson of Cumming, Georgia, daughter, Rachel Johnson of Cedartown, Georgia, and three grandchildren, Abby, Kate, and Max Johnson also of Cumming, Georgia.
Services will be held on Friday, August 18 at 9 AM at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Military Honors will be provided by the US Air Force.
