James was known for his gregarious nature, unwavering principles, and deep compassion for others. He had a profound appreciation for nature, enjoying fishing and road trips. James was an avid music enthusiast, particularly fond of jazz, and possessed an extensive music library.
Growing up in Washington, DC, he loved visiting the city's historical landmarks and museums as a child. After high school, James served his country with distinction during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he started a 45-year career in law enforcement, security and public safety. He served with the DC Metro Police Department, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Sheriff's department and several private and corporate security roles, including 18 years with Marriott properties.
Throughout his life, James had many achievements in law enforcement, but his true passion was to help others. One of his most rewarding activities was delivering meals to seniors with Meals on Wheels. In addition to his community service, he touched the lives of countless individuals through advice, mentorship and counseling.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 51 years, Wanda; his daughter, Tifani Bradley (Jason); his adopted brother, Charles Adderly III (Denise); his grandson, Jackson; brothers-in-law, Norman Walton III (Denise), Edward Walton (Pamela); sisters-in-law, Marcia Walton, Renee Binford (Keith); nephews, Walter Hagins (Teresa), Norman Walton IV (Meresha); nieces, Francine Walton, Angelina Walton (James), Kimberly Louis; grand nephews and nieces, Jonte, Domonique, Ryan, Christopher, Jacob, and Norman V; along with many other extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by James Jackson, Delores Campbell (Jackson), Gerald Jackson, and Jacqueline Frierson (Jackson).
A funeral service will be held on January 13, 2025, at Roswell Funeral Home to celebrate James's life and honor his contributions to our community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Vets (www.dav.org) or Meals on Wheels (www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org) in memory of James Jackson Jr. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.roswellfuneralhome.com.
James's departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will forever be cherished.
