Mr. James G. "Jim" Hindman, 85, passed away on June 2, 2013. He was born in East Point, GA on July 3, 1927. He grew up in the Crabapple area and resided in East Cobb. He proudly served our country in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He received numerous ribbons and Bronze Stars for Iwo Jima and Okinawa Retto. Jim was at the bottom of the hill when the flag was raised at Iwo Jima. Jim retired from Georgia Power Company after 41 years of service. Jim was a kind, simple man loved by many and met many people that became life long friends. Gardening and farming were his passions. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Tillie Mae Womack Hindman, in 2010. Jim is survived by his children; Carol Hindman Butler and her husband Jeffrey, Kathy Hindman Sparkman and her husband Ned, Grandson Matthew Robert Heriot Sparkman and his fiancé Alexa, and Granddaughter Amanda Katherine Sparkman and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday, June 5, at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd., Roswell, GA 30076. The Funeral will be held at Noon on Thursday, June 6, at Mount Bethel UMC, 4385 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30068. Jim will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA. Contributions may be made to Mt. Bethel Veterans Ministry or Gaines Park Senior Living in his honor. Roswell Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
