James Edwin “Ed” Calhoun of Roswell, Georgia passed away in his home unexpectedly on May 21, 2024. Ed was born in Griffin, Georgia to Mack and Katie Sue Calhoun on April 11, 1934. Ed spent his entire childhood and teenage years in Griffin, before enlisting in and serving a term in the U.S. Army.
Ed began his career in sales and marketing at The Mead Corporation on January 23, 1956, where he remained employed until his retirement.
On December 20, 1959, Ed married the love of his life, Christine Shouse Calhoun, in historic Madison, Georgia. They remained married until Christine’s death on November 8, 2020. Together they raised two daughters, Kim and Karen.
Throughout his life, Ed was passionate about fishing and baseball. During a portion of his time in Griffin, he played the position of catcher on a local men’s baseball team, sustaining a collar bone fracture during one of his games. Ed was fortunate enough to have enjoyed going on fishing trips, to Florida Grapefruit League Spring Training, to Arizona Cactus League Spring Training, and to Braves games, at either Turner Field or Truist Park, along with his longtime buddies.
Ed was a family man. In his later years, when he could no longer easily get out of his house on his own, he most of all loved family gatherings when everyone came to see him, or when he was driven to another relative’s house, so he could spend time with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his two daughters, Kim Calhoun Jenkins and Karen Calhoun Lewis, his sons-in-law, David Jenkins and Scott Lewis, his grandchildren, Courtney Wimberly and Zachary Richey, his great-grandchildren, Zachary Scott Richey, Silas Edwin Richey, and Violet Christine Wimberly, his sister-in-law, Ellen Shouse, his three nieces, Patricia Kinney Barner, Martha Shouse Whidden, and Linda Shouse Humphries, as well as by several grand and great nieces and nephews.
A visitation with Ed’s family will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 2;00 p.m. at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia, 30076, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. The memorial service will then be followed by an interment ceremony at the mausoleum. The family requests your presence at a reception in Roswell Funeral Home following the internment of Ed’s cremains.
The family has asked for no flower contributions, if you could please donate to the American Heart Association.
