Jacqueline Hill Harris of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully with her children at her side on October 27, 2022 one month after her 92nd birthday. “Jackie”, as she was known, was a loving, caring, devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, and friend to many throughout all her years.
Jackie was born in Mt Washington (Cincinnati) Ohio and grew up with 3 brothers who protected her and a loving father and mother who spoiled her. She claimed she grew up as a “tom boy” but she actually loved to tap dance, play the piano, and sing. Throughout her life she applied her talents in a variety of ways to both inspire others and enjoy for herself.
Jackie attended Miami University in Oxford, OH for an “MRS” degree which she successfully attained. It was there she met the love of her life, Jim Harris and after marrying in 1951 she supported him in any way she could with the success of his career. Jim’s work prompted a move to Ambler, PA where they started their family of four including twin girls and 2 boys. Jackie strived to be the perfect homemaker and was happy and fulfilled in that role. Her love, work ethic and kindness left indelible impressions on each of her children.
Along Jim’s career path they stopped for a short while in New Canaan, CT before finally settling in Westlake, OH. Jackie anchored the family home life while also leading Scout activities, singing in the church choir, and volunteering regularly for meals on wheels. Jackie also sharpened her bowling skills and became a regular top performer over years of bowling league play. As the children grew, she worked outside the home as a retail sales employee and bank teller. Always organized and a whiz at balancing the family check book, those traits carried over to make Jackie a meticulous employee.
When her children finished college, the path of progress found the kids in Atlanta, GA in their respective careers, which prompted a move for Jackie and Jim for their retirement. They set up shop in Roswell at the Horseshoe Bend Community in 1983. Tennis and golf became important parts of Jackie’s life, and she especially liked the social aspect of their country club lifestyle. Jackie was known as a fun loving and kind person, yet a fierce while graceful and polite competitor on the court and tee.
Over the next 40 years Jackie has loved and supported her family including her 6 grandchildren as they grew up, staying with the steady theme of family being the center of her activities. She and Jim were married for 56 years until his passing in 2007. Most recently Jackie has been making new friends at Sunrise and The Mansions Assisted Living. Bingo, bridge and Happy Hours were her favorite activities, and you would always see Jackie with a smile on her face or a nice greeting that would warm your heart. Family and friends alike will miss Jackie. She was a happy, loving inspiration to anyone who knew her and an exceptional mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (2007); and her son, Greg (2021). She is survived by twin daughters, Cindy Eade (Jonathan) of Johns Creek, Linda Ryan (Terry) of Dawsonville; son, Jeff Harris (Mimi) of Alpharetta and grandchildren: Brenden Eade (33) of Indianapolis, Sarah Eade (31) of San Diego, Jack Harris (22) of Chicago, Helen Harris (20) of Alpharetta, Tony Harris (18) of Duluth and Dylan Harris (15) of Duluth.
