He was born in Waycross, Georgia in 1939 to Eldren Renee and Albert Gottrell Hunnicutt (deceased). Dad attended Waycross High School and received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
With his wife and two children, he lived in Atlanta, GA; Seneca, SC; Merritt Island, FL; Prairie Village, KS, before returning to Georgia in 1986 settling in Alpharetta and most recently Roswell.
George was registered as a Professional Engineer in Georgia, South Carolina, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He also received his Georgia real estate license.
George spent his civil engineering career managing construction projects starting with E I du Pont de Nemours & Co (Seaford, DL), Charles M Graves (Atlanta, GA), and Duke Power Company (Seneca, SC). The majority of his career was in the Power Division of Black & Veatch (Kansas City, KS; Atlanta, GA) as a Business Development Director. He retired as the Energy Group General Manager for the Southeast US Region in 1996. In 2000, he returned to commercial construction project management for several years with de Oplossing (Miami, FL).
George also spent several seasons where he remodeled and flipped homes with his brother. In his spare time, he was an avid reader of history and known for his love of cooking (and eating--especially chocolate). He also shared the love of animals with his wife; adopting several dogs.
George is survived by daughters Laura Hunnicutt (Marietta, GA) and Lynda Hunnicutt (Woodstock, GA); brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Kay Hunnicutt; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Charlie Rose; and sister-in-law, Theresa Hunnicutt (Athens, GA). George was proceeded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marcia; and brothers Jan and Don Hunnicutt.
He will be sincerely missed by his family and friends; yet we are comforted in knowing that because of his profession of faith in Jesus Christ, we know he is fully healed and in the presence of the Lord. A celebration of life service will be held 2pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell, GA. The family will receive friends following the service.
