George Andrew Freeman was born on September 26, 1936 in Plainfield, NJ. He was born to Creola (Gregg) Palmer and raised by Russell and Lillian Freeman. George graduated from Plainfield High School in 1955. As a high school student, George was a scholar-athlete, excelling in academics and he was a star athlete in both football and track & field. During high school, George was also the recipient of the prestigious Cornell Cup, which is an annual college-level embedded design competition created by Cornell Systems Engineering and hosted by Cornell University. After high school, George attended Virginia State College and the R.C.A. Institute in New York, NY.
Beginning in 1959, George served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Radio Communications Specialist and Staff Sergeant.
On February 25, 1961, George was united in marriage with Janice (Peterson) Freeman of Roselle, NJ. From this union, two children were born; Darren Alair and Adrienne Denise.
George worked at Blonder-Tongue Labs Inc. in Old Bridge, NJ for twenty-two years. During that time, his career grew from Electronic Technician to Regional Sales Manager. In 1986, George joined Toner Cable in Horsham, PA where he worked as a Regional Sales Manager until his retirement in 2011.
George enjoyed traveling with his family, cooking, playing cards, and track & field. Playing pinochle and gin rummy with his family was great fun for George and attending the Penn Relays each April was one of his major passions.
George was baptized at an early age at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, NJ. As an adult, he attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Spring House, PA where he served as an usher. In 2018, George relocated from Warrington, PA to Alpharetta, GA to be near his children. He joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Roswell, GA in June of 2018.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Creola Palmer; guardians, Russell and Lillian Freeman and siblings: James Earl Palmer, Helen Patricia Hatchett, Joseph Palmer, Judith Graham, and Arthur Russell Freeman; and his first wife, Janice Freeman. George leaves behind to treasure his memory: brother, Robert Odell (Valerie) Palmer; sisters-in-love Marcella Palmer and Shirley Freeman; his former second wife, Helen Jones Freeman; children, Darren (Ellen) Freeman and Adrienne (Carl) Holland; grandchildren, JoyEllen (Abraham, II) Williams, Trinity (Quinten) Ash, Malika McClary and Anthony McClary; great-granddaughter, Eliana Faith Williams; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, life-long friends and his church family.
A funeral service for Mr. Freeman will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 888 Zion Circle, Roswell, GA 30075. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076.
