Born in Macon, GA on August 18, 1965, as Delonica Lyn Carroll, she was the only daughter of William “Jim” Carroll and Daphine Carroll. She spent her formative years in New Jersey, primarily in Basking Ridge, where she graduated from Ridge High School in 1983. She attended Georgia Southern University. After school, she met and married Daniel Brennan, son of Joe and Carol Brennan of Basking Ridge, NJ. They settled in Roswell, GA (perhaps proving that Delonica was, after all, a Southern Girl at heart) where they lived for almost 30 years and where—as in every other place she found herself in her too brief life—she made a deep impact on those around her and cultivated friendships that will extend well beyond her lifetime.
In Roswell, Delonica and Dan raised a wonderful son, Justin Daniel Brennan (born 1995). All who know Delonica, knew her to be a giver, and that she was happiest when she was doing and caring for others. Likewise, all who were lucky enough to fall within the sphere of her care and attention know that it was her son, Justin, who had the constant devotion of her heart, mind, and soul, and the lion’s share of her love. Justin was always the most important part of her life, and she was a wonderful mother. Justin, she loved you more than you will ever know.
Talented, bright, and beautiful, Delonica was also fun, and funny. She generally wanted the rest of us to be having more fun than she was having, and this attitude was commensurate with her caring and loving spirit, and her commitment to not take things too seriously, if at all possible. Delonica had a way of warding off difficulties with a wave of the hand and an ironic statement that belittled the effect of adverse circumstances: A favorite quip was, “Oh what new, fresh hell is this?!” The question is not inappropriate to the moment, as Delonica has suddenly left it to us, in her absence, and in our sorrow, to try to live on without her. We could do worse, perhaps, than to move forward knowing that we are all better for having known and loved her, and that in our memories and through the impact she had on our lives, her caring and loving spirit lives on in each of us. Thank you, Delonica—we will miss you terribly!
Delonica is survived by her loving husband, Dan, and their son, Justin Daniel; her beloved parents, Jim and Daphine Carroll; and brothers, Michael Carroll and Neal Carroll. Delonica also leaves behind beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and innumerable friends, all of whom loved her, and will miss her greatly.
