David was born in Kansas City, MO to Jacob Abner Epstein and Jeanne Goldman Epstein on July 31st, 1930. David attended the University of Kansas City with the intention of going to law school until he took a course in history and found his true calling. His education was interrupted by the Korean War and he volunteered with the U.S. Navy. He served proudly aboard the destroyer USS Anderson for four years. After his tenure in the U.S. Navy, David returned to the University of Kansas City and obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree in European History. While in Kansas City, David met Helen Talbot, and married the love of his life on Sept. 19th, 1959. David was granted a teaching assistant scholarship at the University of Nebraska where he Worked on his PhD. After completing all his coursework at the University of Nebraska David secured a professorship at the Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky, where he completed his dissertation and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. He earned tenure at Eastern Kentucky before he was offered an Assistant Professorship at the University of Tulsa in 1967. In 1974 he was granted a sabbatical during which he did research in France at the National Archives. He was active in state and national academic societies and served as officer, planned and arranged national programs, presented professional papers and made many alliances with national and international historians. David retired from teaching in 1995.
David was proceeded in death by his daughter, Dawn Michelle McCormick. David is survived by his wife, Helen Talbot Epstein. two granddaughters, Stephanie Talbot McCormick and Courtney Anne McCormick of Roswell, GA, his grandson, David McCormick and wife Amanda, his two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Grace, and Michelle Elyse, from Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his son-in-love, Robert McCormick and wife, Kathy of Roswell, Georgia.
David is also survived by three nieces, Rebecca, Heather, and Rachel, as well as, his family-in-love, Glenda Bare, Sand Springs, OK and Lori Cantrell of Denton, Texas, and the many Talbot-Family nieces, nephews and their families.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at Roswell Funeral Home at 1:00 PM
