David Carl Duvall passed away November 4, 2022, at the age of eighty-four. An Atlanta native, he was born March 20, 1938. He attended Sylvan Hills High school in Atlanta graduating in 1956. While in high school Carl played center on the Varsity Basketball Team. He was a member of the National Honor Society and President of his senior class. He attended Emory University for a year then transferred to the University of Georgia where he became a devoted UGA fan cheering on his beloved bulldogs for many years. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and served as President. Carl earned a bachelor’s in education from the University of Georgia and two master’s degrees – one in education and the second in counseling also from the University of Georgia. He worked in teaching and counseling with Fulton County Schools for 33 years.
During Carl’s professional career, he was a member of The National Education Association, Georgia Education Association, Georgia Association of School Counselors, and The Fulton County Teachers Association.
He was a long-time member of Roswell Presbyterian Church (RPC) where he served on the Session as an elder. He was engaged in the mission programs and participated in several mission trips to Belize and Guatemala. He also volunteered for many years at North Fulton Charities.
Carl organized and was the leader of the Trailblazers Hiking group at RPC. It was on one of the hikes that he and Dolores became acquainted, began dating, and married in 2005. Carl was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He loved playing tennis and gardening in his younger years. He looked forward each week to his Monday night tradition of dining at El Porton Mexican Restaurant with dear friends.
Carl was a very loving, generous, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a profound sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. The priorities in his life were his faith, his family, and his golf game. The deep love he had for his family and friends was immensurable
He was pre-deceased by his late wife Linda Beeler Duvall and his parents Jefferson Carl Duvall and Dorothy Morrow Duvall.
Carl is survived by his wife, Dolores Jenkins Duvall and his daughter, Suzette (Chip); grandchildren Stephanie Birdsong (Jake), Emily Harris, David Harris, Stepdaughter Amanda Hailey (Rankin) Stepson Fr. Mark White and step grandchildren Mary Hailey and Kathryn Hailey.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Roswell Presbyterian Church followed by a reception at the church.
