1943-2010
Chris Weyand of Roswell, Georgia passed away on March 16th, 2010 after a brave fight with cancer. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born February 19th, 1943 in Cleveland Ohio, Chris was the daughter of Stan and Irene Slivka. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in Rocky River and attending Kent State University, she went to work in real estate. At the age of 20, she married Robert Francis Weyand, also from Cleveland. She soon had a daughter, Diane Weyand Adams and a son, Thomas Weyand, born a year and a day apart, keeping her very busy as a young mother. In 1969 they moved the family to Plymouth, Michigan. Always a hard worker, Chris took a job at the local supermarket once the children went to grade school. In 1978, the family moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where Chris resumed her career in real estate ultimately working for John Wieland Homes as a sales agent. Upon retirement, she took up golf as a hobby, where she made many friends. As president of the Country Club of Roswell Women’s Golf Association, she took an active role in fund raising for many causes, including breast cancer awareness and North Fulton Community Charities. She had a great sense of humor which was shared with those that crossed her path. A friend to anyone she met, Chris arranged meals for the sick, visited those in the hospital, and drove friends to chemo treatments. Another passion for Chris was gardening, and she took jobs at Home Depot and then Pike’s Nursery in order to share that passion with others. She was very proud of her four grandchildren, Michael and Sydney Adams of Acworth, Georgia, and Emory and Lucy Weyand of Alpharetta, Georgia. She is survived by her loving husband, daughter and son, grandchildren, and sisters Mary Anne Slivka Haneline of Fort Myers, Florida and Susan Slivka Liller of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Johns Creek, GA followed by a celebration of her life at the Country Club of Roswell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: St. Brigid Catholic Church, Beacon of Hope ministries, 3400 Old Alabama Road Alpharetta, GA 30022.
