77, passed away on April 30th in Alpharetta, GA and is now reunited with his wife, Lois and many caring and fun-loving relatives that made his life full and exciting. There is no doubt that an Iron City beer, a round of golf, a bountiful feast, all followed by a spin on the dance floor, will be waiting for him when he sees his family.
He will be missed by his children and their families. Cindy, Jake and Charlie Overton of Alpharetta, GA; Lori, Mark and Matthew Murphy of Woodbridge, VA and Chuck and his daughter, Aubrianne of Avon, OH. His hope had been to provide the love, guidance and support for his family, and he succeeded and provided so much more.
Born in Powhatan, OH, of Charles and Ruby Hoop, he spent many years in Powhatan and Bellaire. After high school he went to work at US Steel for several years. His parents had instilled in him a strong work ethic and thirst for knowledge that was a driving force in all of his decisions. In his search, he showed up at Ohio State with his clothes and a high school diploma and asked directions to the admissions office so he could enroll. An avid Buckeye fan, his love for his alma mater continued throughout his life. In his 50’s, he continued his education at Duquesne University and received his Master’s in Education, with a specialty in family counseling.
He met the love of his life, Lois, while working at US Steel and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married and began a tour of duty with the Air Force as Chuck entered flight school. He spent 25 years in active duty and in the Air Force reserves, retiring as a Colonel. His time in Peshawar, Pakistan was some of his most memorable and he was proud to have served his country.
In 1966 the family moved to Penn Hills, PA and for over 25 years he worked at Westinghouse, Nuclear Division in Monroeville in various capacities. His position provided the opportunity to travel extensively and he acquired the travel bug, that he kept throughout his life.
In 2009, he moved to Alpharetta to be closer to his daughter. He passed away at Sunrise in Johns Creek with the love of his family to carry him to those that have gone before him. There were many people that were instrumental in keeping Chuck active and involved over the past years, including the caregivers at Sunrise, the team at Evercare Hospice and his special friends. The family celebrates and thanks those people that cared over the years. We hold a special place in our hearts for Rosemary Cook, Irwin, his sister-in-law, who was so supportive and loving to both he and his wife and their children.
