Carol was born to Adam and Mary Pilkowskas in Brooklyn, New York. (She never really did get rid of her New York accent!) She was proud to say she was 100% Lithuanian, and always referred to Joyce as her “baby” sister.
Carol attended Catholic schools from St. Stanislaus Kostka Elementary to Bishop McDonnell High School to Fordham University which she attended on a full scholarship thanks to winning it from her father’s Teamster’s Union. She met her beloved husband, Joe, at the Business School activity room. They were married on June 30, 1962, 17 days after graduation.
Joe and Carol were blessed with four fantastic children Lori, Debbie, Janette, and Joseph and their honorary daughter, Dean. And through those marriages, brought into the family Casey, Jon and Alex. Carol is now hugging Lori and her Mom and Dad in heaven, and looking down on her fabulous, talented grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kenny (and his wife Katie), Addison, Kelly, Ryan (and his wife Lily), Caroline, Raegan, Colby, Samantha, Sasha, Bobby, Hazel and Tripp.
Carol was blessed to be a stay-at-home Mom and later enjoyed all her volunteer work at St. Ann’s: Women’s Guild activities (including being the original Apple Annie), decorating the church, Parish Center Manager, annually decorating baskets for the Life Teen Auction, sewing over 5,000 clothing protectors for Jamaican orphans…she loved it all, every second, every stitch. Carol was a partner in a catering business for several years and especially loved catering the weddings of her three daughters. She also went to art school at UNC Charlotte and enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening.
Travel was a great love, and Carol and Joe did a great deal of it. Their favorites were trips to Europe, China, Russia, a 70-day cruise to Australia, and her 80th birthday celebration cruise with her family.
Carol loved the ocean even to the extent of painting a mural of crashing waves on her kitchen walls and underwaters scenes in her bathroom! She always said heaven would be a one room shack on a sunny beach with lots of shade, crashing waves, and her sitting in a lounge chair reading a book!
Carol will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Catholic Church of St. Ann’s in Marietta, Georgia on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11:00am. Mass will be live-streamed on Watch Mass at St. Ann (st-ann.org).
