First daughter of Winfield and Charlotte (nee Schram) Bergmann, Bliss was born in Jersey City and grew up in Ridgefield, NJ where she attended public schools graduating from Ridgefield H.S. in 1968. She continued her education in New York City at Katherine Gibbs College and Fairleigh-Dickinson University where she worked toward a degree in nutrition and was employed by the university full time in the student housing department. She was a lifelong reader, student, and teacher. She homeschooled her daughter Chiarita through 8th grade.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William; daughter Chiarita (Christopher) Maslankowski; and sister Blythe (nee Bergmann) Larrimore. Known as Joy Joy to her twin grandchildren, Charlotte and Logan, Bliss was a tireless and selfless grandmother. She would tell her grandkids at every visit “first rule is to have fun,” and they did. She lived her life devoted to family.
Bliss had many friends and she kept in touch with many of them as they dispersed across the country. Those that knew her loved her, and she loved them back.
Bliss loved laughter. She was a certified Yoga laughter instructor. Within the home, she was an aspired stand-up comedian. Those privileged enough to hear her jokes adored her unique delivery of bungled set-ups, forgotten punchlines, and inverted structure.
Bliss passionately cared for those in her life. Her spirit of genuine optimism, positivity, and love were a constant example and a source of comfort to those who knew her. She provided abundant support; created incredible memories; and remains a central figure to those she leaves behind.
A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend – her memory will be cherished by many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Bliss’s memory. Please share your memories or condolences with the family at www.roswellfuneralhome.com.
While Bliss’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Bliss in a way that honors her spirit. Her husband William and daughter Chiarita invite you to a celebration of her life on June 3, 2023 at her home in Johns Creek, Georgia from 3:00pm - 7:00pm.
