Mr. Bill Charles Guyer, age 89, of Milton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019. Billy was born on March 10, 1929 in Elkin, North Carolina, a son to the late Dillard Guyer Sr. and Lena Gentry Guyer.
Being one of ten siblings and growing up on a dairy farm, Bill quickly learned the value of hard work and family dedication. Following his high school career, Bill began what would become an extraordinary career with JC Penney. His initial role with JC Penney was Sales Associate in the shoe department then after forty-three dedicated years with achieving levels such as the Southeastern Regional Manager, Bill retired as the Store Manager in Raleigh, North Carolina. For those forty-three years he worked tirelessly to provide for his family and displayed an unwavering support for all of them. Along with beginning his career with JC Penney in 1947, Bill also met and married the love of his life, Molly Jean Guyer. Once he reached retirement, Bill and Molly loved visiting their summer vacation home in St. Augustine, Florida and more importantly spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill was an avid golfer in his retirement and loved cheering on the Atlanta Braves. Bill was a wonderful, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; he will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in passing by his loving wife, Molly Jean Guyer and seven of his ten siblings.
He is survived by his two children, Cathy Hughes, husband Barron, of Milton, Georgia, and Sharon Stewart, husband Jim, of Gainesville, Florida; four grandchildren, Jennifer Stembridge, husband John, Paige Casey, husband Mike, Ashley Nabors, husband Nick, and Spencer Hughes; six great grandchildren, Molly, Katherine, Riley, Carys, Titus, and Cait; two siblings, Vena Sprinkle of North Carolina and Kay Vargo of Idaho; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends also survive.
A Graveside Service to honor the life of Bill Guyer will be held at ten-thirty in the morning on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Green Lawn Cemetery of Roswell with Rev. Valerie Deel officiating. The family will be hosting a reception following the Graveside Services from eleven o’clock in the morning until one at Roswell Funeral Home.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family request donations be made to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
