Bernadette was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she grew up with her beloved sister Kathleen (Schumacher) Brainard and beloved brother Joseph F. Schumacher.
In 1974, Bernadette married the love of her life, Sam De and was able to, as she put it, "finally write my name without a hand cramp."In 1978, they welcomed their first daughter Anitra.
Bernadette and Sam then moved to Roswell, GA in 1982, because Sam had heard there were no bugs nor allergies in the South (actually he was transferred to Atlanta). Bernadette and Sam had decided that since they had done such a fine job with their first daughter, they would welcome their sweet Samantha in 1986.
Bernadette and Sam spent the next 35 years raising their family, living, laughing and loving in the same home in Roswell, GA. Although there were both bugs and allergies in Georgia, Bernadette's fondest memories were sitting on her porch swing at dusk, sipping sweet tea and enjoying God's glory.
Bernadette was a devout Catholic and could always be found saying her Rosary daily. A daily prayer she has passed on to her daughters. Additionally, Bernadette was wonderfully talented and made the most beautiful crochet crafts for anyone and everyone. She was also an exceptional cook and her lasagna has been ranked as some of the best in the world (as reported by the De Family). Bernadette was quiet and humble, and her greatest treasure was the love she had for her family. Her strength and her faith were the cornerstone of her life and her family.
Bernadette is survived by her husband of 44 years, Sam De; daughters Anitra Heinrich and Samantha De; son-in-law Jason Heinrich, nieces, nephews, numerous loving friends, and her sweet puppy Harry.
There will be a visitation and funeral mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Roswell, GA on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 starting at 9:00 a.m. Rosary vigil will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Reception will follow services at Roswell Funeral Home Catering Room 950 Mansell Road Roswell, Georgia 30076.
