Barbara Mowell left this world in the early morning hours of October 29, 2022, to run into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What she once knew by faith she now knows by sight! Her final hours on earth were spent peacefully in her home with her family and friends telling her how much they loved her, reading scripture, singing songs, praying, and giving her lots of kisses. She left this world knowing she was so very loved by so many. Barbara was born November 30, 1936, in Daytona Beach, FL, to the late Ezlee Purvis Lee & Robert Edward Lee. She grew up and went to school in Daytona Beach and then attended FSU where she met the love of her life, Tom. They wed Dec 31, 1958. Barbara worked for the State of FL Conservation Department and was also a schoolteacher while she and Tom lived in Antigua, West Indies in 1959. The beach was her happy place. She enjoyed swimming along with other sports, reading, music, yardwork, and spending time with friends. She was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and pet owner. But more than anything, Barbara loved Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul mind and strength. She sought to know God better spending time in His word daily and actively participating in many Bible study groups throughout her life including Bible Study Fellowship and Precept Ministries. After their children were grown, Barbara also enjoyed traveling with Tom quite a bit. One of the highlights of her life was the trip they took to Israel in 1998 with Precept Ministries. Although she was a Florida girl at heart, Barbara grew to love the N. GA Mountains spending lots of time there with Tom and their family since the 1980s, building a second home there together in 2004. After Tom passed away in 2018, she sold their Orlando, FL home of 50 years and lived in their home in Blairsville, GA with her daughter Laura until she left this earth for her heavenly home. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents as well as her 3 younger brothers, Donald, Richard, and David. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Blairsville, GA; son, David (Paula) Orlando, FL; grandchildren; Lina, Shelby, and Austin, 4 great grandchildren and her beloved dog Chip who was faithfully by her side until she left this earth.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place Tuesday, November 15th at 5:30 pm at First Baptist Church Blairsville in the rock chapel. The family will be available for visitation at 5 pm prior to the service.
Interment will take place Wednesday November 16th at 1:30pm sharp at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. A celebration of life service will also be held in Orlando, FL on a later date to be announced.
