Barbara Jean Baker, 77, passed away on May 7, 2017 in Cumming, GA. Barbara was born in New Rochelle, NY to the late Doris and Fred Baldwin, and grew up in Peekskill, NY. She graduated from Cazenovia Junior College; during her freshman year she met Guy Baker, a student at Colgate University, whom she married March 19, 1960. They moved to Knoxville, where they raised their three sons, then to Athens, TN, and seven years ago, to Cumming.
Barbara’s lifelong dream of completing her education was realized in 1995, when she graduated with a BA from the University of TN. She retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she worked for ten years, in 2000. A dedicated wife and mother, Barbara enjoyed many years of camping and boating with her family.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by sons Jeff Baker (Kris Rice) of Savannah, Lyle Baker of Roswell, GA, and Brian Baker (Tracey) of Griffin, GA, as well as granddaughter Madison Baker of Griffin, sister Dory Kuckhoff of Acworth, GA, and nephews Eric and Stephen Kuckhoff.
Memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, May 13, at Midway United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, with visitation to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Cazenovia College, 22 Sullivan St, Joy Hall, Cazenovia, NY, 13035, the University of TN, Office of Annual Giving, 1525 University Avenue, Knoxville, TN, 37996-0650, or Midway UMC, 5025 Atlanta Hwy, Alpharetta, GA, 30004.
