Ashley Constantine Williams was born on September 29, 1949, in Spanish Town, Jamaica in the West Indies to his late parents Ruby “Pollock” Williams and David Williams. He was the second oldest of their six children.
His formative years were spent in Sydenham, Jamaica. In 1967, he graduated from Willowdene, High School. In 1968, his love of teaching led him to become a teacher-in-training at Braeton Primary and Junior High School. From 1968-1972, he attended and graduated from Mico Universtity College in Kingston, Jamaica.
From 1973 – 1978, he worked in various academic institutions and held roles from teacher to assistant principal. In 1973, while working as a teacher at Crescent- All Aged School, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, he met his wife, Pearl who he affectionately referred to as the “Flower of Mantra”. Ashley and Pearl married on June 12, 1974, had two (2) children and worked hard to preserve their commitment to God during their forty-eight (48) years union.
In 1978, he changed careers to become a salesman for Mutual Life Insurance Company.
In 1984, Ashley migrated to the United States to join his wife, who made the transition two years prior. In New York City and the outer boroughs, he worked various jobs to make ends meet. His last held position of 26 years was a Customer Service Leasing Representative at Penske Truck Leasing. There he served as Shop Steward for union employees twice, first as an alternate, then by election. He was adamant about fair treatment of employee’s and employer appreciation of them. He used his voice to represent their interests. Anyone who knows Ashley, knew that his strong stances were a testament of his care.
He had an interest in global government affairs and politics. He was a cricket enthusiast and played in several cricket clubs over the years. He was also a lover of horse racing and would later go on to own a professional racehorse.
In 2008, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma and Leukemia, and would undergo a bone marrow transplant in 2009. The stem cell transplant team dubbed it a “second birth” to celebrate life to the fullest! Over a decade plus in remission and on July 12, 2022, he succumbed to complications stemming from Leukemia. He NEVER gave up, because he loved life and the family God gave to him.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Pearl, children Ashley Williams jr. (Michelle) of St. Albans, New York, Arlington Williams (Lisa) of Elmont, New York, Andy Williams of Rochester, New Hampshire, Kerri-Ann (Chris) Broussard of Alpharetta, Georgia and Alrick Williams of Jamacia, New York;
