A hero is a person who is idolized for their courage, achievements, and noble qualities. They all don’t wear capes or have super powers, but Thomas Patrick Finn was Captain America in all of our stories. He had an innate ability to put the weight of the world on his shoulders for those he loved and carried it effortlessly. The love he had for his family and friends was limitless and on Saturday June 19, 2021, this hero finally gained his wings at his home in Roseville, Michigan.
Thomas Patrick Finn was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 7th, 1947 to Mary and Vincent Finn. He was the eldest of seven children and is survived by his wife of 50 years Maria Finn, their two children Kim Green(Tray)and Timothy Finn(Brigette); grandchildren: Marshall Taylor, Patrick Nichols, Naiya Taylor, Kiara Taylor, and Rossair Green; great grandchildren: Ayriella Taylor, Gary Dixson and Gi’Anna Dixson. He also leaves behind his brothers and sisters Vincent Finn(Priscilla), Martin Finn(Christine), Geralyn Auger(Marc), Margaret Mulcrone(Robert), Patricia Finn, and Mary Zmudzinski(Richard).
In his younger years, he walked with pride and served in the United States Army, not only for his country, but his family following in the footsteps of his father. He fought with honor in the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged with many medals one of which was the renowned Purple Heart after being a victim of a mortar. He would serve the rest of his life in the United States post office where he worked for 25+ years and retired. There are a lot of things we can say about him to glorify how astonishing of a man he was. We can acknowledge how funny he was, loving, caring, or even how much of a bully he was, but the greatest feature about him is the pride he had in his family.
Thomas Patrick Finn was versatile when it came to life and what he could offer. He did not lack any artistic interest. From Shakespeare to the Avengers, his love for classical music to Bruno Mars, from playing the lottery to his undying love and dedication to the Red Wings, Lions and Tigers. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable in a range of topics—effortlessly beating many contestants while watching Jeopardy. His complex and deep mind had you indulged in conversations for hours not only stating his views, but facts about science, astronomy, history and much more. He was passionate about books, music, and movies (ranging from old war films on VHS to going to the theater weekly with his son and grandkids).
