Rob," passed away on July 25, 2023, in Detroit, MI, at the age of 78. He was born on December 29, 1944, in Detroit, MI, to Albert and Mary Nuppnau. Robert served in the US Army as a Specialist from 1963 to 1969. During his active duty, in 1963 he was assigned to Operation Big Lift in Germany and in 1964 was stationed in Panama during the riots. He later transferred to the USAR control group, VI US Army Corps, finished his military career in the reserves and was honorably discharged in 1969. Robert's military occupational specialty (MOS) was a light weapons infantryman, and he excelled as a sharpshooter with the M14 rifle. He also completed courses in the Code of Conduct and Military Justice.
After his military service, Robert became a lifetime resident in Roseville Michigan and embarked on a lengthy career. He worked as a maintenance property engineer at Yorkshire Plaza townhouse complex from 1970 to 1976. He then joined Etkin & Co. of Bingham Farms at Lincoln Center Shopping Plaza, where he dedicated 30 years of his life until his retirement in 2007.
Robert worshipped at the Roseville Church of Christ, where he found solace and spiritual guidance.
In his free time, Robert had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed building models, collecting rare coins, doodling on a sketch pad, and playing poker with his siblings. He had a passion for watching old Westerns and cheering on his beloved Detroit Tigers and Lions, despite their occasional disappointments. Robert also enjoyed the tradition of barbecues and holiday dinners with his son Todd and cherished special celebrations with his grandchildren. As he grew older, he found great pleasure in reuniting with old military and neighborhood friends for monthly lunches as well as talking with other veterans at the VA hospital in Detroit.
Robert will be deeply missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 18 years Marsha Nuppnau, his son Todd Nuppnau, his brother Donald Nuppnau (Sandy), his stepchildren Nicholas Getts (Katie) and Brittany Gaylor (Keith), and his grandchildren Chase, Allyson, Cameron, and Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Mary, his brothers Kenneth and Roy, and his sister Carolyn.
Visitation will take place on Friday, August 11, from 3 pm to 8 pm at the Kaul Funeral Home, located at 27830 Gratiot, Roseville. A memorial service in honor of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 11 am at the Church of Christ, located at 17415 E 11 Mile Rd, Roseville. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held. On Monday, August 14, at 1:30 pm, Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, located at 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI.
