Cyril was born on Dec 30, 1949 in Detroit, MI to Maurice and Mary (O’Connell) Van Marcke and raised to be a man of his word and to value his family, religion, and country. Graduate of Sacred Heart High School (1968), he was drafted into the Army to serve in Vietnam in 1969.
Cyril is survived by his high school sweetheart and bride of 50 years, Jean (Castine). Siblings: Dolphine, Charlene, and Maurice. Children: Mary (Jason Novetsky), Elizabeth Van Marcke, and Joe (Julie) Van Marcke. Grandchildren: James, Lucas, and Elodie.
While outside of school or his time in the service, he worked with his brother throughout his life – on the family farm, at the fruit market/store, and at the RV Storage. Outside of work, he enjoyed woodworking or fixing anything that might be broken – he had the tool, glue, or knowhow to always figure it out. He also loved spending time with family and was always ready to take a drive to the river (any time of year), or spend the day at the Zoo, Greenfield Village, Armada Fair, or a local park. He was always there to help those in need and would often say “if I could give you my right arm, I would.”
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 3pm until 8pm with a Rosary service at 7pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Pio of Pietrelcina, 18720 13 E Thirteen Mile Rd, Roseville.
Earlier in 2021, he was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma and was going through the necessary chemo/radiation sessions to battle this disease. In lieu of flowers, please take your family on a drive to enjoy the water, visit the zoo, or local metropark – make your next Sunday a day with family.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kaul-fh.net for the Van Marcke family.
