Tony was born in Steubenville, Ohio but grew up in East Detroit, playing Shamrock football and graduating from EDHS in 1947 (the first of three generations of EDHS graduates). He was married to the late Peggy (Bollman) DeLuca for 52 years and together they raised four children; Kathy Czarniawski, Jim (Jill) DeLuca, Tom DeLuca, and Patty (Dan) Costanzo, as well as being grandfather to Dan (Charissa) Czarniawski, Emily (Mark) Naggi, Samantha & Alexandra Costanzo, and Sarah, Alyse, & Paul DeLuca, and great-grandfather to five.
Tony served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War, earning multiple service medals and a Purple Heart. Upon his discharge, he drove for Wolverine Meat Packing before continuing his public service as a police officer, earning multiple awards while protecting and serving the Warren community until his 1984 retirement as a lieutenant. Upon retirement, Tony & Peg moved to Stanwood where they both became very active with the Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City. Tony enjoyed golf, fishing, and dancing, as well as traveling the world.
Tony is preceded in death by his brother John (Marlene) DeLuca.
He is survived by his sister Catherine Zajkowski and brother Jim (MaryAnn) DeLuca, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many, many friends.
Visitation as a celebration of Tony’s life will be from 2:30-5:00pm on Saturday October 3, 2015 at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Ave Roseville, MI, followed by a funeral service at 5:00pm at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of both Tony and Peg DeLuca to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee (www.stjudes.org).
