Virginia Lee Johnson, of Citrus Heights, California, passed away on December 13, 2019 at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith and Christlike love. Virginia was loved by so many. Virginia was born on September 4, 1937 in upstate New York. She was the second daughter of Ford George Stewart and Ida Leota Bobbitt. She married her husband, Theodore “Bud” Philip Johnson, on April 7, 1962 in Roseville, CA. They were sealed for time and all eternity on January 5, 1973 in the Oakland California Temple.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, as well as her five children: Barbara Sylvester (Russ); Jerry Johnson (Camille), LeeAnne Sincere, Christina Thomson (Trevor) and Matthew Johnson (Rosanne). She is also survived by her two sisters Barbara Monahan and Annie Foley, her 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 ½ great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her granddaughter Rhiannon Beck.
She was famous for her bread and cooking. She loved to bake and cook for her family and friends and she was wonderful at it. Prior to her physical ailments, she made homemade bread every week for 40 years for the Sacrament bread for church, a tradition in which her husband carries on still to this day. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings and capacities but her favorite was working with the children, whom she loved dearly. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and had a strong testimony of her Savior. Above all else, the role and responsibility she loved most was that of being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Virginia loved to camp with her family, with Fort Bragg being one of her favorite places to go. She also loved the Southern Mountains of Colorado where she spent decades going for Jack Family Reunions. She enjoyed doing her family history and sharing stories. She was a whiz at puzzles and anytime you went to her house there would be a puzzle out for anyone to come work on with her. As her children grew older she began working as a teacher’s aide at local schools and did so for 40 years, and once she retired she continued to volunteer as an aide.
She lived a full life and will be dearly missed by those she left behind but we are grateful for the knowledge that families can be together forever. Until we meet again…
Funeral services will be held on December 27, 2019 at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building on 211 Estates Drive in Roseville, CA 95678.
