June 1955 - October 2018
Russ was born June 14, 1955 in Frankfurt, Germany to Russell O., Sr. and Theresia Resch Huck while they were stationed there with the United States Army. As with many military families, the Hucks relocated on multiple occasions during service to various bases in Washington, Alaska, Georgia and near San Diego, California. Russ earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at California State University, San Diego and, after accepting an auditor position with the State of California Department of Transportation, relocated to Sacramento in early 1978. He worked in various positions over his decades long career and retired at the end of 2018 from his position as Assistant Division Chief for the Department of Health Radiological Safety and Environmental Management Branch.
He lost his battle with cancer on October 23, 2018 with his family at his side. He leaves behind his brother, Robin Huck, his wife of 38 years, Martha, son Ryan and daughter Ashley, as well as numerous cousins in the U.S. and Austria.
Russ was an avid baseball fan, who enjoyed cheering on the S.F. Giants either while watching games on T.V. or attending home games. A loving, supportive father, he actively participated in his son's Tri City Little League involvement through coaching, team management and as a TCLL board member. Always proud of both his children, he enjoyed attending the Whitney High School marching band competitions and other band activities that Ryan and Ashley were involved with, including chaperoning a trip to Europe with the Northern California Music Ambassador program one summer. He enjoyed travelling to Austria with Ryan and Ashley to spend time with his cousins near Salzburg, Austria. While Russ preferred to stay at home on most weekends, he was very supportive of his wife's involvement with the dog fancy as she trained, showed and responsibly bred quality Keeshonden. It was a common sight to see Russ and at least one fuzzy companion watching the news or a baseball game together.
A Celebration of Life is planned to be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 12pm to 4pm at Lambert and Sons Funeral Home at 400 Douglas Blvd., Roseville, California. Food will be served in his honor.
