September 16, 1947 - December 27, 2020
Michael “Mike” Wayne Amey peacefully passed away on December 27, 2020 at the age of 73 while surrounded by family after tragically losing his life from a lengthy, 4-week battle with complications resulting from COVID-19.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Lincoln, California. He was born in Lincoln on September 16, 1947 to Layman Amey and Iris Young Amey (Seriva) and was the fourth of six children. He was a member of the Lincoln High School wrestling team and graduated Lincoln High School in 1966. Mike married the love of his life, Jeanette Campbell, on February 17, 1973. Four years later, he welcomed his beloved daughter, Mary, into the world.
Mike was well-known for being a caring, generous soul who always put others before himself. Mike retired in 2009 after a 31-year career at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, ending his career as a patient attendant in the Surgery Department. He was a longtime member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church, where he generously performed janitorial duties for the church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, serving as an example of fitness excellence at his gym, supporting the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and the Order of Eastern Star with his wife, and supporting his daughter’s hula halau.
He is survived by his loving wife Jeanette, his daughter Mary (M.J. Sapp), his brothers Steven and Dale, and many nieces and nephews. Mike is predeceased by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his sisters Alice and Fay.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the frontline heroes at Sutter Roseville Hospital for doing everything they could to save his life and for ensuring he was comfortable and painless in the end. Our hearts are with you as you continue to fight this heinous virus.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date once the pandemic subsides. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Mike’s name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California in Sacramento.
