Mercy was born in Manila, PI to Javier and Carmen Albareda on April 17, 1929. During her infancy her mother Carmen was divorced and later remarried Walter Mannion, so Mercy was known as Mercedes Mannion when she came to Northern California in 1935. In her childhood, she lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the delta town of Courtland and finally in Applegate, a few miles North of Auburn,California.
Mercy met Robert O.Anderson during her senior year at placer High School. Bob and Mercy were married two years later on October 16, 1949 in Reno, Nevada.
Mercy spent the next dozen years or so raising her children. Like so many women in her generation, she went back to school after her youngest child entered Kindergarten. She earned a Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential from Sacramento State College in the 1960's and then taught in the Roseville City Elementary School District.She went on to teach for 25 years, mainly third and fourth graders at Cirby School, not far from her home in Central Roseville.
In retirement, Mercy traveled extensively with her Husband, Bob, who was an avid pilot. She did volunteer work for the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store and read stories to children in Spanish at the Roseville Public Library. She was also a long time member of Alpha Delta kappa, an honorary organization of Women Educators.
Mercy is survived by her children, John and his wife, Hyo of Shalimar, Florida, Rick and his wife, Suzanne of Roseville, California, and Janet McElroy and her husband, Fred of Gualala, California. She has five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bob and her son, Michael, who died as an infant.
A memorial service will be held at the Lambert Funeral Home Chapel at 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville,California at 2:00 p.m. on Friday September 20, 2013. A reception will follow at the Anderson Home in Roseville.
