If you encountered Mary Jo out on the town, you would have been on the receiving end of her great smile, kind inquiries about your life thus far, and you would have been presented with the stack of family photos she carried in her purse. Mary Jo knew people everywhere she went around town, and made new friends at every stop. We will miss her here, as she unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016. Mary Jo was born in Boonville, MO. in 1935, then moved with her parents Joseph and Mildred Brown, and younger brothers Vencil and Donny to Roseville, where she lived the rest of her life. Mary Jo attended Roseville High and Sierra College, where she met the love of her life, Fred Lacey. They married in 1957, and spent 59 wonderful years at each other’s sides.
Together, Fred and Mary Jo raised two kids, Scott and Colleen. Mary Jo was a long-time employee of the Roseville City School District, until her retirement as secretary at Cirby School, where she bandaged hundreds of knees. Not one known for sitting down, you probably spotted Mary Jo at the Douglas Blvd. Target where she folded, straightened, and brightened people’s days for more than 20 years. Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents. Her family who will desperately miss her are Fred, Vencil, Don, Scott and his wife Penny, Colleen and her husband John Weems, as well as her pride-and-joy grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Jacob & Zachary. There are countless cousins, friends, neighbors, extended family, church family and work family who she loved, and who loved her right back.
