McCarty, James Richard. On August 21, 1929, Jake and Mittie McCarty were blessed with the birth of a son, James Richard McCarty. he was born in the town of Shamrock, Texas at the home of his parents, who were sharecroppers on his Aunt Annie's Farm. Jim had one older sister, helen born five years earlier. he had two brothers, Kenny born 10 and Bucky born 12 years later. All of the above family members have passed away.
After a few years, the family moved to Belen, New Mexico, some 30 miles south of Albuquerque where he lived for several years. here, Jim met and fell in love with a little redheader Shirley temple, Sunny Branigan. He said he would have married her but thought he was too young, so he just took her by the hand and walked her to school, she in Kindergarten and him in first grade.
During their years at Belem, the McCarty family and a small group of people built the Church of Christ which the family attended for many years.
In the summer the family would climb into the old and drive to California where they picked cherries to pay for their vacation. A standing joke was that Jim had to be weighed each morning before he began picking cherries and then each evening when he quit picking. He ate as many cherries as he picked. When he became a field boss he was reminded of this constantly as this was and remained one of his favorite fruits.
From Belem, the family moved to California where Jake worked as a Fireman for the railroad for many years. Jim attended school. His grades were very interesting. he would begin with very high scores that would gradually begin to slide. Suddenly the grades would soar back to 100. When asked about what happened, he would simply say "Dad talked to Me."
As a teenager, Jim was baptized into the Lord's Church where he and his family attended faithfully.
In 1948, Jim joined the Army/Air Force and was stationed in Texas for basic training. he quickly learned that he could charge the other recruits bus fare to ride the bus around the base-which gave him extra money until he was caught and made to stop.
Later, Jim was transferred to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia where he met and married Viola Elliott in 1950. They had three precious children, Roy Wayne, Vickie Lou, and Diana Gail. Jim loved his children very much. Each night before they were put to bed, he would play games and tell them stories.
In 1959, Jim and Viola divorced and went their separate ways.
On November 4, 1959, at McClellan Air Force Base, Jim met and fell in love, and married a saucy redhead named Chris. They were married until his death on February 19, 2011. Jim enjoyed Fishing, Traveling, Boating, building things out of wood, working in the garden, raising birds and man other activities. In 1980, Jim opened his own business, Yule Tide Supple which he turned was the head of until 1997. ill health forced him to sell the business and retire to Arizona.
In Arizona, Jim attended the Ina Road Church of Christ, where he remained a faithful servant of God. In October of 2010, Jim 's health began to deteriorate and he began his journey to meet his Maker. He died in his sleep at home attended by his wife and members of church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Chris, 3 children, Roy, Vickie and Gail, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Graveside services with Military Honors were held on Tuesday March 1st at 2:00 P.M. at Rocklin District Cemetery, 4090 Kannasto St Roselin,CA
