Helen Edna Treleven was born on January 9 1919 in Los Angeles Hospital. 20 years later her son Steven would be born in the same hospital. Helen went through school in Inglewood California and at one point she had a teacher who called on her frequently. She finally asked him why he called on her so much and he told her he just like the sound of Helen Treleven.
Helen had one sister Amy who was eight years her senior. At one point Amy convinced Helen that a picture of a pelican was actually her baby picture.
After high school she attended a business school. She was also active in church activities. It was in church that she met the new young man Wilber Anderson who with a friend had just started attending the church. As things would have it after dating for a short period of time they decided to get married. They traveled to Santa Barbara and convinced the Methodist minister to marry them right after midnight on January 1 1939. The minister gave them one piece of advice, don't buy a home or have a child for the first year of your marriage. They of course did both.
Also during that first year they made a couple of trips to Michigan to pick up a new car from the factory for someone and drive it back to California. They were able to make stops in Flandrew South Dakota (purported by Wilber to be the garden spot of the world) where she met many of his family.
After son Steven was born Helen became a mother and homemaker. She also took over the care of her mother who had terminal cancer. Years later she provided the same care for Wilbur's mother who also had terminal cancer. After a number of years of marriage Helen accompanied Wilber to Pennsylvania to farm the old family farm. The farming didn't work out so they decided to simply tour around the eastern states for six months are so. They had traveled to Pennsylvania the southern route and returned to California by the northern route getting to see many different states. When Steven entered high school Helen obtained employment as a dental assistant.
Later with Steven in college Helen and Wilber decided to try something new and since Seattle was getting ready for the world's fair they thought living and working on the fair site would be interesting. Following that they traveled to Las Vegas which Helen found to be a very interesting place even without gambling.
Thereafter Helen and Wilbur returned to California where they purchased and operated a beer bar for a short period of time. Helen then went to work as a clerk for the county of Sacramento welfare department. She also lived close to her grandchildren Knute and David and was able to spend many happy hours with them. After retirement they moved to Leisure World in Southern California where Helen's sister Amy and her husband were living. Helen and Amy had become very close, the pelican incident none withstanding. She also had a very close relationship with amy's son Ron and his family. After a number of very happy years in Leisure World Helen and Wilber moved to Roseville to be closer to their son, Steven. They lived in Mistywood where Helen also made many friends and had many good times.
This January, Helen celebrated her 100th birthday at a party thrown by Steven, her daughter-in-law, Sandra, her grand kids, Knute and Dave, their spouses Doug and Julia, and Helen's beloved great granddaughter, August. Three generations of extended family from throughout California, including Amy's son Ron, his daughters and grandchildren, all came together to express their love of Helen and to acknowledge her long, full life and their joy in knowing her.
