Mrs. Barbara Brown Marden of Sacramento, CA, and formerly of Rochester, NH, died on November 2, 2011, after a long illness. Mrs. Marden lived for 20 years in Dover and for 22 years in Rochester at 115 Old Dover Rd., before moving with her husband to Sacramento to be near her daughters.
Barbara was born in Saugus MA, Dec. 3, 1922, the daughter of William Birch Brown and Edna Tilton Brown, both deceased. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Alfred B. Marden, and is survived by her children Joyce Hehir Sweeney of Antelope, CA, Paul Birch Hehir of Crane, OR, Patrick William Hehir of Landing, NJ, Darcy Horne Bulmer of Livermore, CA, and Lydia Horne Clark of Long Island, NY, stepdaughters Carol Marden Wilson of Gilmanton, NH, and Alfreda Marden Kick of Mesquite, TX, 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Marden was a professional genealogist for 20 years with the title of Certified Lineage Specialist, granted by the Board for Certification of Genealogists, and the author of several articles in genealogical periodicals. She was a 35+ year member of Else Cilley Chapter, Daughter of the American Revolution, serving as Vice-Regent, Regent, and for 16 years as Registrar. She was active on the DAR state level, serving as State Librarian for one term and State Chairman of Lineage Research for six years. She was also a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of NH for 35 years. Both Alfred and Barbara were members of the First Church, Congregational of Rochester, for 22 years, with Mrs. Marden serving on the Altar Guild and then Church Historian until their move to Northern CA.
Services were held in Sacramento, CA, and burial was at the family lot in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, MA, and the Union Cemetery in Laconia, NH.
