Audrey Anne Martini, “Nonni”, 82, of Rocklin California passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 surrounded by her children. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Col. (Ret.) Ralph J. Martini.
Audrey is survived by her 8 loving children; Carol Boals (Scott), Cathy Rogers (Stan), Joseph Martini, Lauretta Morrill (Daniel), Judy Martini Abshire, Leslie O’Neill (Dennis), Frank Martini (Lacye), and Ralph Martini Jr. She also leaves behind 23 amazing grandchildren, 4 precious great grandchildren and her devoted dog.
Audrey was born on December 17, 1933 in Niagara Falls New York, the daughter of John and Antoinette Heuring. She was the fourth child, preceded in death by her twin sisters Viola Heuring , Iona Barnwell and her brother-in-law Jack Barnwell. Audrey is survived by her brother Raymond Heuring (Marg), Sister-in-law Dorothy Martini, Brother-in-law Dr. Victor Martini (Sue), and numerous nieces and nephews.
As the wife of a military officer, Audrey served alongside her husband to smoothly transition her family and home in their different tours of duty. She made every unfamiliar moment humorous and exciting to her 8 children. She had a strong faith in God and was active in her Catholic community at every parish. Priests were found at the Martini home watching Sunday football and sharing a meal around the rowdy Martini table. Nonni was an amazing story teller. She could hold the attention of a crowd sharing her opinionated views on life, family and politics. Nonni’s front door and fridge were always open, her table with an extra seat and enough food to go around for all who needed it. Delicious meals and her infectious laughter not only filled their bellies but filled their hearts with love.
Audrey graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Niagara Falls New York and married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Martini, on December 26, 1953. She had a full and exciting life supporting her husband as he served his country as an Officer in the United States Air Force. During her 26 years as a military wife Audrey and her husband moved their family across the United States and also enjoyed assignments in England and Italy. Audrey provided leadership as a member of the Officers Wives Club, serving on numerous committees and volunteering for national organizations and charities. She recognized the need for supporting children and was most proud of her work for the March of Dimes. In 1977 Audrey and her family settled in Rocklin CA where she enjoyed working at the Sunset Pharmacy for ten years. Her favorite hobbies were bowling, gardening, playing bridge and cards and most importantly cheering on her children and grand-children at their athletic and personal events. Audrey’s greatest joy and accomplishment in life was raising her eight children…and of course her “Hole in One”! Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have filled her life with unending happiness. Nonni’s dear dog Poopsie was her companion and friend, providing her constant joy and happiness in her final years. Our family is at peace knowing that she is reunited with our Dad in heaven. We will forever cherish the memories of the life we shared with our mother and Nonni.
A private mass and burial is scheduled on February 20, 2016.
