Mary Verdun Holliday (Wiggins) passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014 at the Rosetown Nursing Wing at the age of 97 years. Mary was born on June 5, 1916 in Fillmore Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Mary Wiggins. She grew up in Fillmore on the family farm and took her schooling in a one room school house. Mary completed her high school in Fillmore and then went to Regina to take her teachers training. She enjoyed teaching, and did so for 9 years in the one room school houses. One winter she had only 9 students, the next a room of 33 students ranging up to grade 10. Years later, on the streets of Rosetown she would be greeted by her former students, now adults. The teacher in her never left - even her care givers were put in detention once in a while. In 1944 Mary married Guy Holliday of Herschel, and had 2 sons; Lorne and Bert. They farmed west of Herschel for 25 years before retiring to Rosetown. Mom loved playing cards, music and camping. Singing by the fire and going out fishing made her very happy. She belonged to the senior citizen's choral group from its beginning in 1974 and was always out singing somewhere or putting on variety programs at the center. Mom was also very proud of her role as the secretary for the Health Care Auxiliary for over 30 years. Mary leaves to mourn her 2 sons Lorne (Jeannie) of Laird, Saskatchewan and Bert (Linda) of Chilliwack, British Columbia. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary will be deeply missed and remembered always. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church. Memorial Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Rosetown Senior Citizens Centre. Condolences for the family may be left at www.clementsrosetownfuneralhome.com Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Amanda Starosta of Clements Rosetown Funeral Home (306) 882-2662.
