Charlie passed away on November 15, 2014 at the age of 89 years at Heritage Manor in Kindersley. He was born in Rosetown on October 25, 1925 to Lillian Rebecca Jane Moore and Arthur Isaac Wellington Wright. He was the youngest of 12 children. Charlie was 8 months old when his dad died and he was he last survivor of his siblings.
Charlie attended school in Stranraer from 1931 to 1935. He continued his education in Rosetown when his mother, 2 sisters, and he moved there. In October of 1943 he joined the Motor Transport Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Toronto, Debert, Chatman, and Moncton. He was discharged in 1946 at which time he started farming with his brother John and later with his brother Mug. He worked the winters in Trail, BC. In 1951 he took over the Wright homestead.
In November of 1951 he married Ada Adams of D’Arcy. They actively grain and cattle farmed until 1978 when the cattle were sold. They enjoyed 23 winters in Mesa, Arizona with neighbors, friends, and newly found friends.
Charlie stayed active swimming, biking, playing pool, and pattern dancing. They travelled extensively to places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Maritimes, Las Vegas, and Branson.
In the early 80’s a swimming pool was built on the farm. Charlie loved to swim, and entertained many neighbors and friends. The grandchildren spent many hours learning to swim and it was a yearly event for the DVBS bible school to attend as their wind up.
In September 2004 Ada and Charlie bought a condo in Rosetown. In March 2010 they moved to Caleb Village in Kindersley. Two years later dad ended up in Heritage Manor due to shingles, and he remained there until his death. Ada joined him in February, 2014.
Charlie is a lifetime member of the Stranraer Elks as well as the Herschel Legion. He was a member of AA for 54 years and AA was a big part of his life. He volunteered at the ski hill in its early years. Charlie was an avid curler and spent many hours sledding with the locals.
Charlie is survived by his wife Ada of 63 years, his daughters Cheryl Mazzei (Eugene) of Rosetown and their children Kimberley Campbell (Bill), Shannon (Chris), Charlie (Meaghan), Christopher; and daughter Brenda Houston (Gord) of Herschel and their children Ashley Ritchie (Tyler) and Justin (Ashley), also two great grandchildren Colton and Meaghanne Campbell.
He was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Arthur Wright, 6 brothers, Arthur (Phyllis), John (Althea) and William, Herbert, James and Walter who were deceased before Charlie was born, 5 sisters Peggy Crawford (Jack), Helen McCuaig (Ewen), Edith Hodgson (Harry), Dorothy Hoffstrand (Wilfred), Annie McPhee (John). He was predeceased by his in-laws Mary and Leslie Adams, brother-in-laws Arnold Adams, Leonard Adams (Edna), Boyd Adams, Harry Adams, and sister in law Bessie Bott (Cliff) and numerous nieces and nephews.
