Susan L. O'Dell

Susan was a member of Savior of All Lutheran Church, Cartersville, Georgia. Prior to retirement, Susan was an elementary school teacher for Rome City Schools. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was dedicated to the education of her students and was named teacher of the year for her efforts.

Susan had many interest during her life. She loved her plants, garden, and yard, resulting in her yard receiving the nickname, “Gibbs Garden of Rome.” Her second love was the beach. She would spend her entire life at the beach if possible. She loved to travel, whether it was Germany, Mexico, Canada, the mountains, the beach or glaciers, but her real love was the love of her two grandchildren. Her entire universe revolved around them. Just prior to her hospitalization, Susan learned that a third grandchild was on the way, bringing her untold joy and happiness. Susan cherished the closeness she maintained with her friends and the many happy moments they shared. Susan loved her dachshund, Bailey, and she was very active in numerous dachshund rescue societies. Her previous dachshund named Herschel, shows her dedication to her alma mater, UGA, with both dachshunds being named after UGA football stars, Champ Bailey and Herschel Walker.

Susan is survived by her husband, William A. O’Dell, her sons, Judson Brent O’Dell (Tara), and Carter Brandon O’Dell (Kim), her daughter. Lindsay Brooke McAllister (Brian), a brother, George W. Lotz, of Columbus, Georgia and a sister, Nancy Ann Streetman of Hurtsboro, Alabama. Susan was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Blake O’Dell.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, November 21, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Rev. Norv Havens officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to, St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A catered reception will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home.
