A native of Rome, Shirley was born on November 11, 1960, daughter of the late William “Sheep” Abernathy and Pearley Horne Abernathy. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family and three dogs. Shirley had two main passions, her collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia and her family. She is lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by two sons, James “Jake” and wife, Krista Cox Barker, Bobby and wife, Kristen Fincher Barker; 11 grandchildren, Haden Barker, Isaac Reynolds, Tristin Millsap, Alyssa Bohannan, Gabriel Barker, Noah Cox, Gavin Barker, Merrin Cox, Reagan Cox, Toccoa Barker and Memphis Barker; 6 sisters, Nancy Larsen, Barbra Godfrey, Joann Edwards, Willie Wright, Gail Shaw and Brenda Abernathy and a brother, William Abernathy, Jr. Extended family and close friends also survive.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Victory Baptist Church with Jackson Davis officiating.
Daniel’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
