Born on February 28, 1943, the first of five children to Margaret Jacqueline and James W. Clark in Fairfield, Alabama, Sharon Jacqueline was a precocious child who once got caught lighting matches under the bed and who would twist her younger brothers' arms behind their backs to get them to behave. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN where she sang in the glee club and danced with boys from the local military school. She was always a sucker for a man in uniform.
She attended Sienna College in Memphis, where she met her husband to be, James J. Byrne Jr. (Jim) on a double date. She and Jim were married on October 20, 1962 in Chattanooga. In 1963, their son, James Joseph Byrne Ill (Joe) was born, followed by their daughters Sarah in 1965 and Jennifer in 1967. The young family moved to Rome when Jim began working for General Electric. Sharon was a stay-at-home Mom who supported her kids' habits: sewing all the scout patches on Joe's uniforms; and attending multitudes of band events for the girls. Her kids' friends were always welcome as beloved additions to the family. She worked off and on outside the home, mostly at the Rome News Tribune, but her proudest achievements were her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Sharon loved books and diet coke, and her family, especially her dog Murphy. If you own stock in Barnes and Noble or Coca-Cola, sell now! Sharon had lifelong friends whom she will miss dearly. She was a reluctant college football fan but enjoyed telling stories of the dates she and Jim would go on to the basketball games.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Suzanne (Jim) Raymo. She is survived by her husband, Jim: children Joe (Shawna), Sarah, and Jennifer; Grandchildren Christie (Mitchell) Pollack, Teresa Byrne, Thomas Byrne, and Marie (Bennie) Chickering; Great grandchildren Reese Duncan, Wyatt Clark, and Ellie Chickering; her siblings Jennifer Clark, Greg (Gloria) Clark, and Philip Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to your local animal shelter.
A life well-loved is a life well-lived.
