Robert Walter Weed, age 62, of Rome, GA passed on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 surrounded by family and friends. Robert Weed was born in Inning, Germany on November 27, 1951, the son of the late Tia Faulkner Weed and Theodore Weed. He was also preceded in death by his cousin MacLean Marshall.
Robert attended Palm Beach Day School, Palm Beach, FL and received his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic design at the Blocherer School of Design, Munich, Germany. Prior to moving to Rome, Robert worked as Art Director, and Head of Graphic Design for the Sportive Advertising Agency in Munich Germany. In 1977 Robert founded and was the President and Creative Director of Edgehill Advertising in Rome, Ga. In 1999 he co-founded Roosterhead Antique Heart Pine & Brick, Inc. in Rome, Ga. with his son Marc Weed, which specializes in reclaimed wood products. Robert was involved in many civic activities past and present including, but not limited to The Rotary Club, The Exchange Club of Rome, Floyd Relay for Life, and The Rome Symphony. Robert was an avid sailor and a member of the Rome Sail Club where he served in the capacity as Commodore of the club. He was a lifelong supporter of the club, planning events and designing logos and publications among other creative work.
Robert enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved cooking, sailing, creating art and spending time with family and friends, and keeping their hearts happy.
Robert was devoted to the Marshall Forrest, Georgia’s first national natural landmark, and the only virgin forest within the city limits in the United States. The forest was donated to The Nature Conservancy by his cousin MacLean Marshall in 1966. He served as the chairman of the Marshall Forest Stewardship Committee where he gave much of his time, talent and hard work to insure the integrity of the forest. He personally built several foot bridges on the Flower Glenn trail. He designed and helped build the monument honoring Doctor Lewis Lipps, who served as the Marshall Forest’s first land steward.
Survivors include his spouse; Mimi Wood Weed, to whom he was married on October 21, 1995; two sons, Marc Christian Weed (Jackie) and Stephen MacLean Weed (Sherry); two grandchildren, Christian Weed and Marshall Weed; his cousin, Patric Jardin of Inning Germany; and many other family members that loved him dearly.
The family received friends on Monday October, 20, 2014 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at Daniel’s Funeral Home. A memorial service followed at 11:30 am in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, with Dr. Greg Lund officiating, following the receiving of friends. A private interment was held at Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
Robert actively supported the Land Trust/Marshall Forest project of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.
