Mr. Swint was born in Fayetteville, GA on April 20, 1943, son of Edith Phillips Swint and the late Edgar Jewell Swint, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Homer B. and Mary M. Phillips and Edgar Jewell and Marie Willis Swint.
Survivors include his mother, Edith Swint, Rome; a son, Robert L. Swint, Jr., and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Swint of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Sandra Yeargan (Ed L. Yeargan, Jr.), Rome, and Carol Edwards (Scott A. Edwards), Rome; nieces, Edith Tomasetti (Lou), Amber Broome; nephews, Ed L. Yeargan III (Stephanie) Phillip Broome; great nephew, A. J. Tomaset5ti and great niece, Rebecca Tomasetti.
Mr. Swint was a member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church. He graduated from East Rome High School in 1962 where he excelled in track and achieved a long lasting record in the broad jump. He was attending Shorter College when he enlisted in the Army for a period of four years from 1966-70. He served in Japan from 1967-70 and achieved rank of E6 and was presented a commendation medal for meritorious performance. He was honorably discharged in July, 1970. He finished his BS Degree from Shorter College in 1972. Afterwards he was employed by Georgia Power as a communications specialist until his retirement.
Since retiring he had many interests, among them beekeeping, hunting, sports and gardening. He loved God, his home, family, friends and country, and his special dog “Bud.”
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 11 a.m.at the Second Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Sanders officiating. Interment followed in the East View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Dr. David Bowen, Jeffrey Dixon, Randy Edwards, Tommy Jones, Kerry Phillips and Ed Yeargan III. The Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Honor Guard provided military rites.
