Phil was the son of the late Hazel Waits Sanders and Elbert Carlyle Sanders. He graduated from Rockmart High School in 1961 and the University of Georgia in 1965. He proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps and Reserves. He grew up in the Methodist Church and was the consummate professional, having been associated with Chambers of Commerce in Savannah, Greenville ,SC, and the Cobb County Chamber where he was the executive director. He later worked with the University of Georgia in corporate fundraising.
Memorial services are Saturday, January 13, 2018, 11 a.m. at Meadow Baptist Church, 6158 Hwy 191, Comer, GA, with the Rev. Mike Sarna officiating.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Janice Smith Sanders; son, Greg (Courtney) Sanders; daughter, Andrea Collier; grandson, Cason Collier; three brothers and one sister, Jack (Brenda) Sanders of Alexandria, VA, Wayne (Jan) Sanders of Rockmart, GA, Eleanor Anne Sanders (Dick) Dixon of Marietta, GA and Neil Sanders of Rome, GA.
